Can A Needle Prick Cause A HIV Infection?

hi doctor, my husband is a surgeon,he got pricked a needle during a opration & patient was infected whith HIV, we knwen it after 3 - 4days. so what is the chance of HIV infection & should he start antiretroviral therapy.how is it effective.it happened 10 days ago(3rd JULY 2011).PLS
