Can A Mosquito Bite Cause Swelling In Eye?

Hi Dr. My 16 year old daughter woke up one morning with a swollen eye. She does not recall any bites. We live in Malawi, Africa. Could this have been a mosquito bite? On the internet I have read about the Assassin Beetle which seems to cause long term heart problems? I am in a bit of a panic reading this. Her eye is fine now, the swelling went down about 5 days later and she was treated with an anti histamine. Many thanks for your help

Hello
It seems from the history that your 16 year old daughter had an episode of swollen eye following an insect bite.
Any insect bite including mosquito bite can cause these symptoms of swelling of the eye.
The fact that it responded to treatment with antihistamine confirms that it was secondary to some insect or fly bite.

Thank you
