Can Amlodipine Be Taken After A Heart Attack?
My 71-year-old husband had a heart attack August 17, with 4 bypasses. After an unfortunate experience, we came home from rehab. in his possessions, I have found where he has been taking Amlodipine since May 5-2017. Should he resume this medicine? It was not reported to the heart surgeon but the home health nurse said she would check on it and get back to me. that was a week ago, Naturally, I am worried.

I suppose that he's already been given a prescription with the appropriate drugs for his case. Amlodipine can be part of the regimen, but this is up to the cardiologist to decide. It's not one of the absolutely necessary drugs after an acute event, so it's usually given to help control the blood pressure or angina. So if he's been given other drugs and does well with them (blood pressure within target range and no symptoms), then there is no reason to try any changes. Otherwise do discuss this matter with the treating doctor. He may already be taking a similar drug, so giving Amlodipine to him without talking to his doctor first may cause problems.
