Are Long Term Usage Of Migrainal Tablets Dangerous?

Hi, My name is Angela and I have been taking this medicine for a long time. I take 200mg a day. And I never read the side effects, which I should have. But I have been told that I have a lot of the side effects. I have really bad migraines and am afraid to stop taking them right now but I have setup an appt with my neoroligist to change this medication. This has really affected me at work and i just want to be sure to get some professional advise to be sure. Am I doing the right thing?

Hi and thanks for asking in HCM forum. Migranil contains Dihydroergotamine and works by narrowing the blood vessels in the brain. Most common side effects of Migranal tablets are Dizziness, Fatigue, Tingling or pain in the nose or throat, Stuffiness or dryness in the nose or nosebleeds, Changes in taste, vomiting. Some seriuos side effects are Runny nose, Sneezing, Dryness, burning or, swelling in the nose, Nasal obstruction or congestion, Taste disturbances, Chest pain, Changes in heart rate, Swelling, Itching,Faintness, but these side effects are rare. Your doctor might have assessed risks involved in taking this medication with benefits, so trust your doctor and take this drug only when u have severe migraine. Consulting a neurologist is also good decision. Regards
Dr Santosh.
