Brief Answer:
Due to genetic associations

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for using the Ask a Doctor service.

I understand your concern when you ask this question. Let me tell you that a significant number of children with autism have genetic vulnerabilities that make them develop the ailment. These genetic factors may be associated with various syndromes and in such cases multiple congenital anomalies or variations may be present. Thus some of them can have presentations like single kidney.

I hope that I have been able to clear your doubt.

Hi I know that children with autism have genetic vulnerabilities and multiple congenital anomalies but I am asking if there are specific genetic mutations that could account for many children with Autism having only one kidney

Answered by Dr. Diptanshu Das (22 hours later)
Brief Answer:
Specific mutations have been identified

Detailed Answer:
Sorry for the inadvertent delay in responding. Yes, there are definite genes implicated. TSHZ3 as the critical region for a syndrome associated with heterozygous deletions at 19q12-q13.11, which includes autism spectrum disorder (ASD) is also found to be associated with single kidney. XXXXXXX University Medical Center (CUMC) researchers also identified a class of mutations called copy number variations (CNVs) to be responsible.
