Brief Answer:
Most likely carpal tunnel syndrome

Detailed Answer:
Hello, I'm Dr. Branch, thanks for using Ask a Doctor.

Your symptoms would most likely be caused by carpal tunnel syndrome, which is caused by compression of the median nerve as it travels through the carpel tunnel in your wrist. It is a very common disorder, affecting 1-5 percent of the population, and especially affects females. The symptoms of carpal tunnel syndrome are usually pain or numbness in the first three digits and part of the 4th digit, but can have some variation. The symptoms are often worst at night and with certain activities involving the hand and wrists.

If this is bothering you or if the numbness persists, I would recommend seeing a doctor about this so that they can do an examination, and possibly other EMG or nerve conduction studies to confirm the diagnosis and determine how severe it is. Initial treatment is with a wrist brace, worn especially at night, which can help keep the median nerve from being compressed. Later treatments including steroid injections, and, if everything else doesn't work, surgery.

I hope that helps, please let me know if you have any questions about any of that, and I would be glad to discuss it with you further.
