Question: my husband isnt on any blood thinners but has been having a lot of trouble with gout lately and taking meds for that and stroids but now all of a sudden if you touch him to hard this is what happens. Do you have any ideas what could be causing this and what we should ask the doctor about if we can get him in and if i should take him to the ER ? we dont know if this is something that can wait or not?

Brief Answer:
Easy bruising due to gout treatment

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thank you for trusting us with your health concern

I have gone through your question in detail and the attached images.

The purplish discoloration noticed on his skin is bruising.
Easy bruising can happen as a side effect of the medications used in the management of gout, like non-steroidal anti-inflammatory medications and steroids.

It is nothing to be worried out. An immediate follow up with ER is not necessary.
Make sure that he does not bump into things often, fall, or get injuries.

Address the easy bruising on the next follow up with his treating physician and see if blood investigations to check coagulation/clotting are needed, and if dose of the medications should be adjusted.
