Is White Stool In An Infant After Switching The Diet From Breast Milk To Cow's Milk Normal?

Question: hi doctor, My son is 11 months old now. He was exclusively breastfed until 6 months and post that we started supplementing him with formula milk (Nan Pro). He was kind of colic since 2nd week of his birth and used to have a lot of tummy trouble which has reduced significantly now. Hence recently we have started giving him normal cow's milk. He is doing fine with that but we have noticed that after this switch his poop colour has changed. It is very much closer to white colour these days. Is it normal ?

Brief Answer:
Not normal

Detailed Answer:

Hi,

The whitish color of poop indicates undigested milk, which means that the child is having difficulty in handling cow milk.

So, this is not normal. After weaning, milk becomes an accessory item provided that the nutrients can be procured otherwise. I would suggest you eliminate cow milk and also NAN and give other solid or semi-solid food items.

Also be on the lookout for yellowish discoloration of the skin.

Regards
