Question: hi doctor, My sister had slipped at home couple of months back and got the area close to her knee injured. There was no visible injuru marks but pain. She had consulted the doctor and was given medicines and the pain had even started to subside. Since last 15 days, the pain has started again and it is terrible this time. She is not even able to walk now. Her doctor advised for MRI and i have attached the report of the same. Please suggest. Thanks

Brief Answer:
Mild inflammation of prepatellar bursa.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for posting your query.
I have seen the attached report. All the ligaments and menisci are normal. There is some inflammation of prepatellar bursa and a mild fluid collection in the area. This should subside with anti inflammatory medicines and rest.
She can help the improvement by-
1. Avoid any strenuous knee exercises, lifting weights, climbing stairs, cycling, etc.
2. Take a mild pain killer like acetaminophen every 8 hourly.
3. Do a hot fomentation in the area twice daily.
4. You can apply a local analgesic gel like Volini also.
5. Use an elastic knee brace for better knee support while walking.
Do consult an Orthopedician for a physical examination and stronger prescription medicines in case there is swelling, persistent pain and difficulty in walking.

I hope this answers your query.
