What Could Have Caused Sudden Combative Behavior In A Child Diagnosed With Autism?

default
Posted on Tue, 10 Oct 2023
Question: have a 12 year old grandson with autism/ He has not met the characteristics of most autistic children when it comes to hugs and touching. Fortunately for us he has been a "love bug" and has always had passive behavior. He suddenly started not wanting to go to school. One day he came home with bruises all over his body. My son and his wife immediately went to the school to find out what happened and why were they not notified. They were tolld that my grandson became combative and they had to restrain him. My son took action against this school and my grandson is attending a new school. The problem now is that he does not want to go to school and has continued to be combative. What could have caused such a dramatic change in his behavior? I feel that the restraining might have set this off. What can we do to help him? He will be turning 13 at the end of XXXXXXX could teenage hormones be affecting him, any suggestions on what to do?

Brief Answer:
Some suggestions how to deal with mood disorders in autism

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

My name is dr.Dorina Gurabardhi.

I read carefully your query and understand your concern.

Mood disorders are very common in people with autism. They have difficulty in expressing emotions in a normal way.
There are many causes that can lead to aggressive behaviour.People with autism live every day with sensory overloads, social rejection etc
Of course the teenage hormones can influence him too.

Some advices that I can give to you are :
-education is very important, it helps in improving communication and reducing behavioral symptoms related to autism
-find him a hobby in music or art that can improve self-esteem.
-animals can help to,give him a pet as a gift,it can help in soothing stimulations
-the most important thing is frequent consultation to a psychologist.

Hope my answer was helpful.
