Would Eating Dry Fruits Be Good For Me At My 7th Week Of Pregnancy?

Posted on Mon, 16 Oct 2023
Question: Hello Doctor, At my 7th week of pregnancy, would eating dry fruits be good for me? I eat five almonds after soaking them overnight, 2-3 walnuts and few raisins. I just wanted to know if this would be good for me at this stage, and if I should increase/decrease my intake. The query may sound trivial, but I just wanted to be double sure. Could you also please suggest dietary changes required. Thanks in advance doctor!

Brief Answer:
You can have dry fruits.

Detailed Answer:

Hello,

Dry fruits are healthy foods rich in omega fatty acids that help in normal brain development of the baby. You can have dry fruits in moderation from the 7th week of pregnancy.

You are taking the right amount of almonds, walnuts, and raisins.
Green leafy vegetables, fresh fruits, whole grains, pulses should be taken more often. Eat frequent but small meals.

The nutritional supplements that you need for healthy baby include-

1. A high protein diet- rich in pulses, cereals, eggs, fish, etc.
2. High calcium intake- like milk, milk products, eggs, bajra, ragi, etc.
3. Eat fresh fruits and green leafy vegetables (fiber-rich) and avoid foods which are not easily digestible and fatty foods
4. Have five-six small meals instead of 3 large meals
5. Drink plenty of fluids throughout the day
6. Go for regular Brisk walks for 30 to 40 minutes daily.
7. Take Folic acid and DHA supplements regularly as prescribed by your gynecologist.

I hope this answers your query. In case you have additional questions or doubts, you can forward them to me, and I shall be glad to help you out. Wishing you good health.
