Brief Answer:
Repairing after injury happens within 1-2 months

Detailed Answer:

Hi,

After an injury, if there is cartilage rupture, it can be repaired with splints within 1-2 months time. In this the splint has to be worn continuously (24/7) for the 6 weeks period and maybe longer. Once the natural repair process is complete, there is little hope that it will heal with splint alone.

Palmar Type 1b means ulnar avulsion due to trauma.

Arthoscopic suturing gives nice results. You can check with your orthopedic surgeon about its pros and cones. Since its not an emergency and you do not wish for this suturing, then you must wear splint for atleast 3-4 weeks and see the results. Re-do the test after wearing it for the said time. Till then complete immobilisation of the joint must be there.

Otherwise arthoscopy is a good choice in experienced hands.

Some pain will be there (depending on extent of repair) and may limit the weight lifting at the joint.

Hope this helps. Let me know if I can assist you further.
