Brief Answer:
Cataract affecting the person's lifestyle is a good indication.

Detailed Answer:

Hi,

As such there is no vision percentage to remove cataracts in a person's eyes. The amount of cataract may not be directly related to diminished vision in all cases.

For an ophthalmologist, even if a small cataract is directly impacting the person's daily lifestyle, he can counsel the person to go for surgery. For a few, even with visible cataracts they can perform the job normally with very little discomfort. Most importantly, the person should be willing to undergo surgery unless, they would not want to perform.

If you have cataract, put the following questions:
- Can I perform my daily job and drive safely?
- Do I have problems reading or watching television?
- I still feel independent with my vision problems?

If your answer is NO to any of these questions, you can meet an eye specialist.

Hope I have answered your query.
