What Parts Of The Lungs Are Visible During A Breast MRI?

Posted on Mon, 15 Apr 2024
Question: I had a breast MRI completed (no issues there). There was a small nodule found on my left anterior lung. What parts of the lungs are visible during a breast MRI? Am curious if the radiologist can see all or most of the lungs.

Brief Answer:
MRI breast might show upper and mid parts of bilateral hemithorax and lungs

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Thanks for writing in to us.

Breast MRI is technically modified to include the upper and mid chest areas. It does not necessarily include the lower parts of bilateral hemithorax and lungs. The reply to your question is the radiologist might visualised most of the lungs but not complete lungs. Another important part if MRI assessment of lung nodules is that movements during MRI breast might not show nodules clearly in some patients and CT chest is needed for detailed evaluation.

regards.
