Brief Answer:
Gemzar improves five year survival rate

Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXX,
Thanks for writing in to us.

I have read through your query in detail.
Pancreatic cancer is one of the cancers which is difficult to treat completely. When we talk about success rate in pancreatic cancers, we mean the 5 year survival rate which is better when a patient is put on Gemzar.

Research shows that the 20.7% of patients given Gemzar might survive for more than 5 years and the median (midpoint) period of survival without any progression of disease was 13.4 months in the treatment group getting Gemzar.

The overall survival period had a median of 22.8 months in patients treated with Gemzar.

Important fact about pancreatic cancer is that the "overall mortality-to-incidence ratio is almost 98%." Only a minority of patients have a localized disease that raises the prospect of cure by surgical tumor resection.

Even after complete surgical removal, "the vast majority of the patients relapse within 2 years, leading to a 5-year survival rate of less than 25%."

Please feel free to correct any oversight in my interpretation of your problems and discuss them in detail as per your requirements.

Hope your query is answered.
Do write back if you have any doubts.

Regards,
Dr.Vivek
