G6PD deficiency is a genetic condition is which the patient has inherited mutated genes for the manufacture of this enzyme. This enzyme is needed for the normal functioning of Red blood cells. In the absence or deficit of this enzyme, the RBCs may breakdown when triggered. So it may lead to symptoms of anemia and jaundice. It usually causes acute episodes.
If the triggers are avoided, then prognosis is good. Triggers include some infections, some medicines and some foods.
