Question: Hello,

My relative is a 48 year old female ...detected with Kidney stones however the doctors mention that the stones cannot be removed with laser surgery and skin cut surgery needs to be performed. My questions:
1. Looking at the reports attached what is her current medical condition?
2. Is a surgery needed or can it be medically managed?
3. Will a skin cut surgery be necessary for this?

Brief Answer:
Surgery is recommended to prevent permanent damage to right kidney

Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXXXXX
Thanks for writing in to us.

I have read through your query in detail.
Please find my observations below.

1. There is a large stone in the right kidney causing significant obstruction to flow of urine. The right kidney also shows decreased functioning. Size of stone not mentioned.

There is a stone in the left ureter which is causing obstruction to flow of urine but the left kidney function appears to be maintained. Size of stone is not mentioned.

2. It is not possible to treat the right kidney stone without surgery. If surgery is not done immediately then the right kidney might get permanently damaged.

Treatment of the left ureter stone depends on the size of the stone.

3. The right kidney stone is probably large and if the kidney has to be saved then skin surgery is the only possible treatment. If left for 15 days more then there are chances of right kidney permanent damage and this should be prevented from happening.

Hope this answers your question. Please feel free to correct any oversight in my interpretation of your problems and discuss them in detail as per your requirements.

Hope your query is answered.
Do write back if you have any doubts.
