Question: Hi my daughter is 10 wrrks old and weighs 13 lb and 3 oz, and 22 inches in height. She is the 90th percentile for weight. Is she becoming obese? She drinks 28oz of formula per day. What am I doing wrong? I don't force feed her, only on demand.

Brief Answer:
90th percentile does not mean obesity

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for asking on HealthcareMagic.

Let me assure you that weight between 3rd and 97th percentile is absolutely fine and there is nothing to worry about. When you plot the weight sequencially on a growth chart, if the weight follows the same line, things are fine. It is only if the plotting cuts lines or changes percentiles that we need to get concerned.

Let me remark that breast milk is the best possible feed for a baby and there can be no alternative for the same. Give formula only if breast milk cannot be procured. You are doing the right thing be giving feed as she demands.

Hope that helps.
