What Causes Swelling On The Face And Tongue?

default
Posted on Sat, 28 Jan 2017
Question: I have unexplained swelling in my face and toung that comes from no where at anytime. So far everything that I have been tested for has been negative. Hereditary angioedema, acquired angioedema are a couple of the ailments that I was tested for. When the swelling happens sometimes I can take a couple of Benadryl and the swelling goes away. Other times I have to get to the emergency room to get a cocktail of Benadryl Pepcid steroids and epinephrine. I have come close to having to be intubated a couple of times. I have seen two different allergist and a rheumatologist and have been told to Just go home and take antihistamines daily. I am 55 years old and I've been going through this for a little over one year. There has to be a reason or underlying condition that is causing this, I cannot function taking antihistamines daily they just make me sleep they're not curing the problem.Any suggestions on where to go from here. I just had another episode 2 days ago that was really bad and really really scared me please help.

Brief Answer:
Angioneurotic edema. Steriods and antihistamines treatment

Detailed Answer:
Hi, thanks for your query. As I have gone through your history. I am also in the opinion that you are suffering from Angioneurotic edema. Cause is idiopathic. May be hereditary or acquired. Treatment is steroids, antihistamines + epinephrine during acute episode. Stress is the aggravating factor. Sorry there is no much treatment option for this XXXXXXX condition except antihistamines as prophylaxis. Hope my answers have helped you. Thanks.
