What Causes Recurrent Retrosternal Chest Pain Despite Taking Medication?
Question: Hi Dr., I have pressure on my stomach feels like someone has their fist shoved between my breasts. I'm taking two Omeprazole a day, and in between the two Omeprazole I'm taking Maalox three times a day. It subsides the pressure for a little bit but it comes right back.

Region between breasts is called sternum. Retrosternal chest pain is very classical of angina. Most of the patients having classical angina never complains of XXXXXXX pain rather they complain of a sense of heaviness or pressure in sternal area.
These symptoms could also be caused by Heartburn and gastritis but that should have responded to Omeprazole and Antacid you are taking.
Initially i would recommend you to go for few basic tests of cardiology like E.K.G and 2D echo.
2d echo will help us see any regional abnormality in wall of heart which is an indicator of compromised blood supply.
Once the pain settles down a stress test should also be done to rule out coronary artery disease.
Suggestions.
Take your blood pressure.If systolic Blood pressure is more then 110 mm of hg take isosorbide dinitrate sublingually. This would immediately relieve the pain.
Visit the nearest cardiac set up immediately.
Follow up with investigations.
