What Causes Racoon Eyes After A Head Injury?

default
Posted on Wed, 16 Jul 2014
Question: 3 days ago I fell and hit my head on the ground. I have no concussion symptoms. No nausea, headaches, or dizziness. 24 hours later I got raccoon eyes but still have no other symptoms other then tenderness at the impact area. Do I need to go to the er? Or do I just take it easy and watch out for symptoms.

Brief Answer:
can take it easy

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Welcome to HealthcareMagic.

Racoon eyes suggest a base of skull fracture.

But as three days have already passed and you have no symptoms then you can elect to wait and watch now.

The racoon eyes will fade off in a couple of week.

If there is any severe headache, dizziness, neck rigidity or ear or nose discharge and show at an er.

Get well soon.
