Posted on Tue, 6 Oct 2015
Question: I have a continual throbbing in my right ear that is the same as my heartbeat and it goes all night long. It is rythm similiar to my heart ...almost like a pulse. It is creating sleepless nights. Is there something I can take to eliminate this.

Brief Answer:
distract the pulsation

Detailed Answer:
Thank you for contacting HCM with your health care concerns.

You have been hearing this pulsating in your ear that accompanies your heart beat. You are actually hearing your own pulse. This is a common thing and nothing abnormal. To help reduce your awareness of the pulse I recommend for my patients to get a sound machine or turn a radio on while sleeping. This extra sounds will distract the brain from listening to the pulsation and concentrate more on the music. There is nothing else that can be done to help this problem.

I hope I answered your question. Please contact us again if you have any further questions.
