Posted on Mon, 20 Feb 2017
Question: I had stomach pains after eating and even swallowing liquids for several weeks. A couple of times, it was accompanied by diahrreah but just a few times. Then I noticed a discharge from my navel and it was spongy. Since then, I have had no discomfort, pain ceased. Is there a connection…?

Brief Answer:
There is a connection between navel discharge and pain abdomen.

Detailed Answer:
Hi
During development, navel is connected to the gut and bladder by a duct. This duct gets obliterated in course of time. If it is patent and gets infected, there will be discharge from the navel it can cause pain abdomen. If the discharge is blocked, there will be pain. If the discharge is out, then the pain will be relieved.
Ultrasound abdomen will give a clue
Please consult your doctor, get examined clinically and proceed further.
I have seen few cases of discharge from the navel. Inspite of medical treatment, there was no response. During surgery, I found Pus pocket beneath the navel which was discharging pus. I removed the pocket and they were comfortable after that.
Hope I answered your query.
Wish you good health.
Regards
