Posted on Fri, 19 Jun 2015
Question: I broke my upper left arm last year. All has healed well I have a bump which is normal since there were no pins placed. I went to rite aid and tried the blood pressure machine and my readings were considered high. Would my arm effect the monitor?

Brief Answer:
Arm will not affect monitor.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for posting your query.
The healing bone or the lump on the bone cannot affect the blood pressure readings. You can get your blood pressure checked on the right arm. It will also be higher than normal.
I hope this answers your query.

My next question is since my reading was high should I follow up with my doctor? I run 3-5 times a week at least 4-6 miles and never feel fitugued.

Brief Answer:
Yes.

Detailed Answer:
Hello.
Thanks for writing again.
Yes. A high reading can be asymptomatic. You need to regularly monitor your blood pressure and follow up with your doctor and start the proper treatment if needed. Till then decrease your daily salt intake.
Hope my answer is helpful.
