Posted on Tue, 3 Feb 2015
Question: Ive been having sharp burning pain in my right quad muscle for over a year. Started happening only during sex and orgasm but has since occurred when lying down this passed week. The pain is localized and getting somewhat worse. I have never injured that area. Any help would be appreciated.

Brief Answer:
History is consistent with localized Muscle spasm.

Detailed Answer:
Hello

Welcome to Health Care Magic.
My name is Dr Muhammad Ahmad & I will look into your problem.

I have gone through your query and would try to help you in the best possible way.

I understand your concern and want to assure you that this is not something dangerous you are suffering from; it is benign and very treatable.

It might be a new thing for you but in our everyday experience we some across so many patients who face this problem, most of them are those who aren't really into work out, there is one thing which makes quads a common site for cramps and that is, quads are not used in common activities like calm walking brisk walking and very little part is used in running so even many athletic people get this issue , only people who seem safe are those who frequently do rock climbing, stair climbing or hiking.

During sexual activity quads are used extensively and repeated contraction makes them tense and sore, most notorious position reported is so called, "missionary position". There are many nerves and arteries running through quads and when they swell up or get sore (usually temporarily), they may compress on these small nerves and vessels so there is a range of presentations people come up with, some say it gets rum, some describe it as sore muscles, and some say it burns.

During orgasm muscles of upper thigh and hip undergo sever contraction and that increases the sourness of muscle but soon as you rest after sexual activity muscles goes back to normal and soreness goes blood starts running and symptoms get relieved.

What can be done about it?

1- I will suggest you to visit a good physiotherapist so that you can get started with more targeted exercises to get rid of this problem.

2- You can join a gym and ask trainer to tell you good quad exercises.

3- Hiking rock climbing or stair climbing can help.

4- Trying other sex positions can help.

Hope I have answered your query. If you have any further questions I will be happy to help if not then don't forget to close the discussion and rate it.
Wishing you good health!!
