What Causes Hard Swelling On Hip Region Post Injury?
Question: My husband fell today, hitting on an edge of a stone wall. His hip area is swollen and very hard.he has no pain walking. He put ice on it in the afternoon but now he's ignoring it. What should he do now,6 hours later. Huge swelling.
Brief Answer:
Hematoma
Detailed Answer:
Hello
Thanks for the query
A huge swelling in the hip region is most likely to be a hematoma, which is collection of blood clot.
Here are my suggestions
1. I recommend you to continue applying ice packs and get an x Ray for the hip to rule out of a fracture.
2. Do not walk or life heavy weights until further investigation
3. Please do not ignore the matter any further, it could lead to permanent disability
I hope I was of help, if you have any further queries please get back to me
Regards

Ice for how long, another 24 hours?
Brief Answer:
Ice
Detailed Answer:
Hello
There is no recommendation on applying ice as such but I tell my patients to apply ice for 15 min every alternate hour. If gives good pain relief and also reduces the swelling
