What Causes Blocked Neck Arteries?

default
Posted on Tue, 8 Apr 2014
Question: I am a man 73 years old. I have some blockage in my arteries. One at 80% of the left side of my neck. Waiting for a specialist for that problem. In the meanwhile my legs gets really cold and so sore that at night I have a hard time sleeping. It last well into morning time and then for a while after supper they get so hot that I have to remove my socks. I have been trying to get an answer from my family doctor for years . No answer. I ask for a Doppler but it seems that it is not necessary. I would like to know if it could depend on my circulation or if it could be something else. I would like to have at least some answers to help me out for when I have a visit with my heart specialist. Thank you.

Brief Answer: detailed below Detailed Answer: Hello. Thank you for the query. As your neck arteries are narrowed due to cholesterole accumulation in the walls (arterosclerosis), we can assume that your legs arteries are in the similar condition. Therefore, your symptoms may be caused by arteries insufficiency in the legs as well. Arterial problem usually gives cold and pale legs, thin and hairless skin, pain in the calf when walking ( which subsides when you stop ealking). It is also possible that your problems are caused by veins issues. If so, you should have swollen, painfull legs, usualky warm. The pain appears after long standing and so does swelling. Dopplers ultrasound is used to diagnose both conditions and should be done at yor case. Hope this will help. Feel free to ask further questions. Regards.
