Question:
Thank You Sir.

I have read that taking medicines will be the temporary treatment for knee pain in case of cartilage loss. It won't solve the problem permanently. Is it true? or can we expect cartilage regeneration at any moment? Do these medicines are having some side effects if the patient will take them?

What factors will indicate right time to indicate the knee replacement? Is it the intensity of pain or measures of fixed and varus deformities?

Thank you in advance?

Brief Answer:
Medicines are for temporary relief.

Detailed Answer:
Hello.
Thanks for writing again.
Taking medicines is a temporary relief and will not cause cartilage regeneration. These medicines - joint lubricants are usually given for 3-4 months and it reduce the pain for 8 months to one year. These are dietary supplements and are safe for consumption.
The replacement is done if there is unbearable pain even at rest and even walking on level surface is restricted. Joint replacement will only decrease the pain. The deformity if it is too much can cause pain and will need a replacement. Let your orthopedician decide the best treatment for you after proper examination and investigations.
Hope this answer is helpful.
Regards.
