Question: Hello Doctor,
I am teacher by profession. The school in which i work is full of double standard people. The headmistress is very biased and humiliates the teachers whom she doesn't like much. My problem is when ever she fails to get some work done from anyone she will approach me for the same, which obviously means that I'more capable than others. But recently after her work got over she humiliated me in front of lot of people several times due which i lost my temper and when i get annoyed i raise my voice. The problem is now everyone is targeting me on this weak point and avoiding me. Few of my friends say i should say sorry to the HM as she is the head and also the matter will get over but i am of the opinion that why should i say sorry when i really don't mean it. Also, I know is even if I say sorry she is not gonna leave me and in fact she would not accept it to insult me more. I don't want to satisfy her ego at all. I am really confused and have sleepless nights because of all this issues. Kindly help me ASAP.
Regards.

Brief Answer:
Saying sorry will not harm anybody

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for using healthcaremagic.

I read your query and understand your point of view. I also agree that you should not satisfy her ego but I want you to look other side of story.

There are few things clear from the available narration
1. The person is your boss
2. You raised your voice which was unprofessional manner
3. She approached you repeatedly as she had more faith in you. I will not consider it more capable as it increases the profoundness which is harmful for any human being.
4. Other friends did not consider it appropriate so they started avoiding you.
5. Avoidance by others also indicates that your boss is bossy and threatens others with similar or obvious threats.

I just spoke one side of story but I must admit that practical approach solves many dead locks in life and arguing with some body who has no ability to understand emotions is worthless and your boss seems to be of that caliber only. I must not be judgmental but for solving this I compelled to do so.

By saying sorry you will not be satisfying her ego but you will discard your ego which is preventing you from doing so. Rather than thinking about herself think about yourself. What you are getting from not saying sorry. Just sleepless nights and confusion. Just saying sorry and forgetting the matter will help all of you including your headmistress and others.
I also understand that she may not leave you but I am sure if you do not admit your mistake there is no chance she will spare you.
After saying sorry there are some chance that she will not report to higher authorities.
I hope you do not want to spoil your peace of mind for some unreasonable person.

Having said this I want to say that being reasonable and being practical is two sides of coin and not interchangeable. The wise person uses both sides after due consideration.

Hope I am able to answer your concerns.
If you have any further query, I would be glad to help you.
If not, you may close the discussion and if possible you may rate the answer for me, so that I get a good feedback.

I agree on what you said. I also wanted to ask that should I complain about her to the higher authorities as she really doesn't treat teachers in a right way except for few. I want the higher authorities to know that she hasn't passed and of my good feedback also and has always appreciated her favourite teachers and humiliated rest.

I want you to know that higher authorities have come to know from parents and outsiders that I am doing a great job. I also resigning in 2 months which was pre decided due to personal reasons. I Want to disclose the unfair treatment given to people under her supervision.

Brief Answer:
I think it will be better for you to wait for right moment

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for writing back to me.

Thanks for your acceptance to my biased suggestions and following me.

I think it will be better for you to wait for right moment, as if you complaint right away things will be seen in that regard and many of your seniors may not see the true picture.
Make alliance with other friends and do in collective manner as it has better impact on authorities.
If you have no risk of losing job or that does not matter to you, you can take bold step.
Please be reminded that never lose your cool and always use professional language as filthy language may back fire on you.
Thanks and regards
