Suggest Treatment For Swelling And Pain In The Hips

Question: I recently was swimming at the beach (5 days ago) with my 4 yo nephew and I picked him like a baby and bent over to throw him in the water and I felt this sharpe pain/tightness in my right hip/lower back area as I went to throw him. Needless to say it has been 5 days and I have like this tennis ball size lump/swelling in my right hip that is not getting better. It is hard to walk, very sore in the am, and almost feels like my hip is out of place. I am a 29 yo wm with no past history of any thing similiar to this. I was an athlete in college but probably 20 to 30 pounds over weight now with minimal exercise. The swelling/hardness of my right hip is concerning me. I feel like I am tilted now when I stand up and it feels like my hip has very little mobility. What do you think is going on doc?

Brief Answer:
Please, get an X-ray of the hips!

Detailed Answer:
Hi and thanks for this query.

I have reviewed these images and have also reviewed the surrounding circumstances of this pain. It would be best to get an x-ray of this hip region and see what is happening is happening to this joint. Like you mentioned, there could be a subluxation and this clearly needs to be evaluated. Please, treat this as a matter of urgency as any delay might lead to further deterioration of an ongoing minor problem.

I hope to hear what the findings are for further evaluation and insights. For the pain medications, they are okay and really don't need to be changed unless the pain is so severe.
Note: For further queries, consult a joint and bone specialist, an Orthopaedic surgeon. Book a Call now.
