Question: I`ve started walking to work about 20 min. for about a month .I stand on my feet around 6 hours.Lately instead of the walking getting easier or losing weight ,it seems to be harder to walk. It takes every ounch of my streangth to walk ,but I` m fine just standing.I do have arthris in my right knee, and my foot is usally really swollen by evening . So what is causing the wierd systoms? I`ve been trying to walk more.I`m thinking I should try to stregthen my core muscles.

Brief Answer:
Venous insufficiency

Detailed Answer:
Hi, thanks for using Healthcaremagic

I went through your query and understood your concerns.

Swelling of foot at end of the day, most common reason is venous insufficiency. Which gets aggravates by prolonged standing.
Calf muscles are known as peripheral heart, they pump blood towards heart. I appreciate that you are exercise regularly. Do continue.
While standing keep moving your toes and foot which contracts calf muscle and helps in blood pumping. You can do once in 5 min or when ever you remember. You can also use stocking socks to support your legs.
You can get examined by doctor once your insurance is back, you need to get evaluated for kidney function and cardiac work up should be done.

Hope I answered your query. Feel free to ask further related query.
