Brief Answer:
Adenomatous polyps have 50% chance of turning to colon cancer.

Detailed Answer:
Hi

Sessile polyps are often non cancerous growths but some can develop into cancer.

The most common type of polyps found in the colon are hyperplastic and inflammatory polyps which are polyps that do not carry a risk of developing into cancer.

However another type of polyp is found in the colon which is called adenomatous polyps which if left alone could turn into colon cancer.

These types of polyps are considered as pre cancerous.

If the biopsy report show adenomatous polyps that have tubular or villous characteristics then they would have a higher chance of about 50 percent of becoming cancerous if not removed sucessfully.

Chances polyps turning into cancer are high in people with a personal or family history of polyps and colorectal cancer and those that carry specific genes for hereditary forms of colorectal cancer.

People who have type 2 diabetes and those who are considered obese are also at greater risk for polyps turning into colon cancer.
