I am 35 years old and I have melasma. I had it years ago from taking birth control. I stopped taking the birth control and it went away. I started taking the low-dose birth control a few years ago and the melasma started again, but since I stopped taking birth control all together about 9 months ago, the melasma has gotten even worse. I looked on internet and saw that thyroid issues can also cause melasma so went to family doctor and he did blood tests. He said my TSH level of 1.7 is within normal range...I wanted to have more in depth testing to confirm its not a thryoid issue and he refused because the tsh level of 1.7 is normal so I want additional advice...I feel like something has to be causing the melasma

Could chloasma be a sign that I am pregnant? I am due to start my period and have noticed brown patches on my forehead and above my upper lip. I have read that chloasma usually appears during the second trimester. Is there any other reason for it? I am not taking any medication and have not taken the contraceptive pill for a few years.
