Question: I am a caregiver for a patient with AML lukemia. She has now begun vomiting up blood. What does the vomitng mean in relation to her life expectancy?

Thanks for your query.

Life expectancy depends upon the overall prognosis of the disease. I guess that is not good as you have mentioned that no further treatment options are available.

In a patient of terminal aml, bleeding is expected as the platelets are low. If the bleeding is severe, it can be fatal within even a few hours. But if the prognosis is not good, there is no point actively treating this with blood and platelets support.
