Suggest Treatment For Accidental Exposure To High DB Noise

Posted on Mon, 10 Nov 2014
Question: hello, I have a simple question.
I did open a helium pressure tank 5 liters, 200bar, to check if there was any gas inside the tank.
I open the valve suddendly, and there was a very high pressure ( felt like high sound level ), and felt very uncomfortable.

Was this uncomfortable happening because of the hight pressure inside the tank, or was it a very high dB level. ?

2 hours after, I don't have any pain, and my hearing feels normal ?

is this dangerous or ?

Brief Answer:
Accidental exposure to high dB noise & near blast

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Thank you for your query. I can understand your concerns.

Short term exposure to loud noise can also cause a temporary change in hearing (your ears may feel stuffed up). These short-term problems may go away within a few minutes or hours.
Loud noise can also cause physical stress making you uncomfortable.
You have been subjected to both high pressure wave and high Db sound. The effect of sound was more though transient and did not cause any serious damage apparently.

Brief Answer:
Stuffed ears following exposure to loud noise

Detailed Answer:
hi
If you still have ears feel stuffed ,it is better that you undergo audiometry (done by ENT specialist) to detect signs of acoustic trauma,if any.
This kind of test involves providing sounds of various loudness and different tones in order to more carefully assess what you can and can’t hear.
In my opinion you are unlikely to suffer permanent damage unless the noise is of very high dB.Damage to the hair cells in the inner ear and to the hearing nerve, called sensorineural hearing loss or nerve deafness, can occur from a brief, intense noise such as an explosion.
