Question: Is it wise to switch from the Crestor brand to the generic.....I have been on the regular Crestor and have had excellent results with no side effects....the generic is lower in cost but I am 85 years old and do not want to risk unnecessary side effectts.

Brief Answer:
not necessarily ..

Detailed Answer:
Hello xxxxxxxxxxxx, Welcome to HCM,
I've gone through your query and understand your concern..

You have a very valid point, but let me inform you that the whole point of FDA working so hard for approving the generics is solely for the patients only, so that they can have increased access to necessary treatments, that's why the cost is also kept more or less same or even bit lower in this scenario..

The approved generics by the FDA possess the same quality and strength as brand-name drugs. Needless to mention that, all generic drug manufacturing and packaging companies must pass the same quality standards as those of brand-name drugs.

So to conclude, if your fine with Crestor only, let it be, no need to change. However, if at all, for any other reasons, there's any change of plans in future, you can certainly switch it over to generic (I'd say follow your instinct on this, and of course, do keep your treating doctor in the loop too)..

Do let me know if there's any further queries
