Question: Recurrent UTI. Took antibiotic Keflex and was taking D-Mannose before the antibiotic. It took about 2 weeks for dr to confirm uti. Took the antibiotic and the infection went away. About a week later is back but no pain or burning. Urinating fine because I am drinking lots of water and continue with D_Mannose and Vitamin C

Brief Answer:
Bacteria in your urine in itself does not matter

Detailed Answer:
Hi Vivy,

If you have bacteria in your urine, but no symptoms, e.g. burning sensation when peeing, you do not need antibiotics, unless you are pregnant.

However, since you are troubled by recurrent UTIs, I'd suggest an ultrasound of your kidneys.

Hope this helps.

Thank you for your response. Should I wait a few days to see if it is the d-Mannose working or schedule the ultrasound. Why do you recommend the ultrasound?

Brief Answer:
Ok to take the mannitol

Detailed Answer:
Hi again,

It should be OK to take the mannitol. The ultrasound is simply to see if there is an anatomical reason for your recurrent UTIs, e.g. ureteral stenosis.

Hope this helps.
