Over 4 Wks Ago I Caught A Cold. Next Day

default
Posted on Tue, 8 Jan 2019
Question: Over 4 wks ago I caught a cold. Next day had an asthma attack. I was given a breathing treatment and prednisone shot along with prednisone pills to take for the next three days. Diagnosed with rhinovirus, and no temp. Cold continued with fatigue along with deep cough (not asthma, I can breathe) and sore throat. Since then I have developed a sinus infection with severe headache with discoloured phlegm. Can antibiotics be given for this? Husband says no but l'm so fatigued and I'm not exaggerating about this going on for four weeks.

Brief Answer:
As explained below.

Detailed Answer:
Hello and welcome to "Ask A Doctor"

I have gone through your query. Viral infections usually subside on their own with symptomatic treatment. As you are having a sinus infection it is better you start on antibiotics such as Augmentin (Amoxicillin-clavulanic acid). These are prescription only medicines so you will have to go to your physician for the prescription. You can take Tab. Singulair which helps for asthma.

Meanwhile, you can take Pseudoephedrine which is available over the counter for decongestion and sinus relief. Steam inhalation and drinking warm lemon juice with a tablespoon of honey every day helps build immunity and clear airways.

I hope this helps. Please feel free to discuss further.
