Brief Answer:
your wife needs to practice sleep hygiene measures

Detailed Answer:
Hello XXXXXXX

Thanks for posting your query. I have read it, and understand your concern for your wife.

I am sorry, your wife was down with covid. Hope she is doing better now except for the sleep part.

Coming to your query, your wife was prescribed the right medications, and I am glad she completed the course of it all.

Now, Alprax 0.5 mg tablets are usually not prescribed for long duration as it can become addictive. It is used only for short sleeplessness.

I would not recommend giving here another course of Alprax. Instead, she can try sleep hygiene measures. The lack of sleep that she is experiencing now is mostly psychological.

The sleep hygiene measures include -

- Going to bed at the same time every night and waking up at the same time every morning, including on weekends.

- Remove all electronic devices from the bedroom like TV, computer, and also smartphones.

- The room has to be quiet and dark, and relaxing, so your wife feels comfortable.

- Please ask your wife to do some physical exercise, so that she can get sound sleep.

Like I said earlier, this sleeplessness is mainly psychological; could be due to home isolation for some time. And, not getting to go outside. Also, being at home all the time would have made her bored, and idle.

I would not suggest any medication for this. Her symptoms should improve gradually. Please counsel her regarding the same.

She will be fine soon. Let me know if you have more concerns.

Regards,
Dr Shanthi E
