My Urine Is Off And On A Dark Brownish Color
Question: My urine is off and on a dark brownish color for a few weeks. Sometimes it is normal yellow and other times brownish. The only change in my diet recently is my taking garlic pills. I am 70 years old. I have no other symptoms. Should I go to a doctor to check this?

Based on the facts that you have posted the dark brownish color urine that you are passing occasionally is due to Benign Enlargement of Prostate ( B.E.P.) which is common after the age of 60 years.
In BEP prostate gland is congested and occasionally there is bleeding from the prostate resulting from rupture of small vein on superficial surface of prostate which gets mixed up with acidic urine giving rise to passing of brownish colored urine .Normally this ruptured veins seals off spontaneously to make urine to be clear .
Consult qualified Urologist for clinical and digital rectal examination and get following basic tests done to confirm the diagnosis.
1) Urine routine and culture.
2) Ultrasound scanning of abdomen and pelvis
3) Serum PSA.
4) Uroflowmetry.
.Further modality of treatment will depend upon result of these tests and final diagnosis.
