My Family Doctor Ordered An MRI And The Report Did

default
Posted on Thu, 28 Nov 2019
Question: My family doctor ordered an MRI and the report did not mention any significant "issues" however my chiropractor looked at the scans along with a friend who is an MRI tech and they both believe they see something (Chiari Malformation) that was not reported by the radiologist. Attached are scans from the MRI for your review. Should I also be asking for the radiologist to re-look at the images to see if they missed what the others are seeing? And if so, who would be responsible for making that request?

Brief Answer:
Reevaluation by the Radiologist is necessary.

Detailed Answer:
Hello and welcome to 'Ask a Doctor" service.

I have read your query and saw the reports you uploaded.

It is difficult for me to give you a straight answer since the original MRI is necessary to evaluate all the images and to measure the possible cerebellum herniation.

However, it is my impression that the cerebellar tonsils are herniated and it may be Chiari type 1 malformation.

Anyway, this needs to be confirmed by the Radiologist in detail.

So, it is actually necessary a reevaluation by the Radiologist and the request may be made from the family Doctor.

Hope you found the answer helpful.

Let me know if I can assist you further.
