My Eye Hurts Very Badly. I Tried To Put My

default
Posted on Wed, 30 Dec 2020
Question: My eye hurts very badly. I tried to put my contact in yesterday and it hurt, I took it out and started itching. This caused it to hurt more. I took the whole day putting in eye drops and assuming it would go away the next. It didn’t. I woke up with a crusty eye and it’s still painful when I blink. I’m really scared. And i don’t know what to do

Brief Answer:
Possible eye infection but also possible corneal damage.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thank you for using "Ask a doctor" service.

It looks like you may have gotten an eye infection and you need antibiotic drops. What are the drops that you are using?
Also, is the eye around red? Does it hurt when you move your vision around or just in general? Is your vision normal for as much as you can notice?

It is very common to have an eye infection while using lenses. But also since you have pain, you may have scratched the cornea with your finger/nail. In this case you would need to see a local doctor to examine you. If you have that possibly, I would consider that.

Looking for to your follow up question.

Kind regards,
Dr. Klarida Papaqako,

I am currently using cromolyn sodium ophthalmic solution. My eye is red under the upper eyelid only and the redness has sept through a bit.
It hurts to blink but not to move my eye as much. My eyelid itself is a bit on the swollen side. Thank God, my vision has remained the same. When I shut my eyes to rest, it does hurt a bit to open it up as well but only in certain positions.

Brief Answer:
Possible cornea damage. See a local doctor to evaluate.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

It looks quite like you have a damage in the cornea. Consider seeing a local doctor so theu can evaluate how much the damage is.
Do not worry. It will be ok. Just see a doctor where you are. It should not be a complicated issue. Most probably they will just prescribe an antibiotic drop to prevent infection.

Let me know if I can assist you further.

Kind regards,
Dr. Papaqako
