Question: My doctor recommended use of AMLODIPINE BESYLATE 5 MG AND ALSO ATORVASTATIN 20 MG. I really don't want to use both of those drug. My reason as follows:
I did not give an exact report on my exercise program and my pressure log was not considered. Additionally, my previous health care provider was targeting a pressure reading of 137/80 as acceptable and with this new provider requiring 120/80 I need another opinion.

Brief Answer:
I need more information

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

I can't comment on your doctor's decision but I don't see any reason for taking any of the drugs you've mentioned. Despite that, I have to say that hypertension cannot be diagnosed (or excluded) with only one measurement in 2019 and a few measurements in the previous years. You're going to need either home measurements twice daily for a week or a 24 hour Holter test, which records the blood pressure throughout a 24hour period (every half an hour usually). After having this information, the decision would be much easier. If your usual blood pressure is less than 140/90 then your blood pressure is OK.

Regarding cholesterol, your test reports do not indicate high cholesterol. Since your personal history does not include coronary artery disease or other serious cardiovascular disorders, I do not agree with the addition of a cholesterol-lowering medication. Perhaps your doctor has more information than I do though and you should consult with him before taking any decision.

I hope I've answered your question. Please let me know if you need further assistance.

Kind Regards,
