Question: My dad is in the hospital and he was diagnosed with endothelial carcinoma and it has spread to his lungs. He is having alot of trouble breathing, and he is in the hospital with a machine helping him breathe through his neck. He complains about pain in his neck, and the doctors want to do a tracheotomy. We wanted to hold of on the surgery because we are trying to get him to Mayo Clinic for a second opinion, but the doctors will not release him for us to take him. what do you suggest we do.

Is he on Endotracheal intubation?
Or on a ventilator?
Where is the original cancer?
How much spread to the lungs?
Post the reports if possible.
Can he be taken to another hospital without any respiratory support?
Any other history pleas.

It was epithelial sarcoma of the face 4 yrs ago. Right side of the face was mostly removed. He has a few spots in the lungs. He is currently intubated and has been since wednesday. Pleural effusion drainings were being preformed on his lungs to remove fluid. In january the fluid stopped coming out and we thought it was gone but they said it became blocked and filled up this entire time. They are afraid to take the tube out because his CO2 levels keep rising but they dont know why.

Brief Answer:
Continue the treatment if the Doctor can continue treatment

Detailed Answer:
Noted the feedback.
Since intubation has been done and there is pleural fluid accumulation it will be difficult to shift him to any other hospital.
I think you should continue the treatment at the same place if the Doctors say they can handle the problems well.
Removal of pleural fluid may improve the respiration.

I hope this answer helps.

The breathing machine was turned off today to test his breathing and he was unable to breathe. The fluid has been drained. And now they are saying his ph is too high.
