default
Posted on Fri, 13 Oct 2023
Question: My baby is preterm and born on 35.5 weeks and now he is 7 weeks old. We got BaeR test done today and there is minimal high frequency hearing loss on left side. We have reports. Will my baby be fine or what kind of treatment will be given to cure him? Is it curable?

Attached report and written conclusion by doctor. There was no consultation as it’s only testing centre.

Brief Answer:
High frequency loss

Detailed Answer:

Hi,

The her Baer report shows a minimal loss in the left ear. The right ear is absolutely normal.
Please tell me is the child responding to very loud noises and sounds like he gets up or startles on loud noise?
Usually such loss is sensory neural and not recoverable. As the loss is minimal, it won't effect the speech development of the child but I would advise you to get him examined by an Ent specialist and get a OAE test done.
Also tell your paediatrician regarding this so that he can examine him thoroughly for any other coexistent problem.
Also the test must be repeated at 6 months of age.
Till than there is nothing to be done and no treatment is required.
Any further questions are always welcome.
Take care
Thanks and regards

He responds to loud noise. Is there any chances of improvement when we get Check up done at 6 months?

Brief Answer:
Minimal hearing loss

Detailed Answer:
As the child is preterm, there are better chances of improvement because developmental changes will occur.
You are always welcome with any queries in future too.
