Brief Answer:
Heart rate is measured as Beats per minute (BPM)

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

I saw the attached reports and I understand your concerns.

Following is my reply:

1) Heart of baby is measured in Beats per minute ( BPM).

2) Average heart rate of baby should be above 140 beats per minute.

3) Since heart rate of your baby is 107 BPM it can happen than pregnancy might end up in miscarriage for heart rates below 140 BPM but this is not always true.

4) Heart rate can slowly improve and we might see better survival after few weeks. Keep hopes.

5) Other parameters including CRL appears good and according to age.

Let me know if you need anymore help.

I’m confused. Everything I see online is BPM for 7 weeks should be around 110. Am I confused about gestation date vs fetal age? Can you explain more?

Brief Answer:
110 is critical low threshold

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

You are right. 110 is minimum BPM heart rate. 140 is the average BPM. Anything less than 110 BPM is alarming and critical. But desirable range is around 140 BPM.

Everything we have been able to find says that the 10.7mm CRL = 51 days gestation or seven weeks. Then BPM for seven weeks should be around 110 so 107 seems normal? Are we reading some part of this wrong?

I don't understand. The information I have says 110BPM is the normal expected value. Not the minimum critical. Can you explain what I am missing? Please explain in more detail. Everything I can find says:

10.7mm CRL = 51 days
At 51 days avg BPM is 110BPM
So then 107 would be good.

It seems like we shouldn't be expecting 140+ until 9 weeks? Am I misunderstanding something basic?

Can you give me a link to information explaining 140BPM being ideal at this stage? I'm confused and we are very stressed.

Brief Answer:
Heart rate is measured as Beats per minute (BPM)

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Around 6 weeks when the heart beat starts it is slow and picks up by 7 weeks or 49 days. It should be above critical level of 110 BPM and should pick up to 140 BPM as the pregnancy crosses 7 weeks.
Minimum critical level at 9 weeks is 140 BPM. You early pregnancy is in transition after 7 weeks and improves as you approach 9 weeks.
However early pregnancy measurements have error margin and can vary. Hence always there is good chance of pregnancy going well and heart rate picking up.
Plenty of references can be found on pubmed and other books of fetal medicine for your reference.
