I’ve Seen Many Dentist In The Last 2 Years Because

Question: I’ve seen many dentist in the last 2 years because I have a spot on my upper teeth line in the left back that feels like scare tissue but will get soft and then flare and feel like a scab and becomes irritating to the touch. When it flares my upper left back gum line, cheek bone and ear start to hurt and I start feeling a shocking feeling when I step to hard or bend over in my left upper gum. One dentist said the spot was a scare, one said looked like a fungus and other didn’t know. I have a full upper denture. Would an ent do the biopsy and figure out what the spot is and if it’s causing these shocking sensations in my gum/cheek area?

Brief Answer:
Seeing an ENT doctor is advisable, very likely the biopsy will be ordered but certain treatments might be tried first

Detailed Answer:
Hello and welcome to 'Ask a Doctor' service...

I read your query in details and here is my advice:

- if a lesion is not completely healing but coming back, especially if it comes back in the same location very likely a biopsy would be a good idea, just to be on the safe side

- I would recommend you to go on and have an appointment with an ENT doctor as this is the best medical specialist to deal with mouth lesions.

- Very likely the ENT doctor will order a biopsy unless s/he sees signs of a clear diagnosis that does not need a biopsy. Sometimes the doctor might consider a diagnosis, recommend treatment according to your response to that treatment.

So very likely a biopsy will be ordered but it can happen that some treatments might be tried first if a certain diagnosis is considered as the cause.

I hope this answers your query.
