Is Pregnancy Possible Through Non-penetrative Sex?

default
Posted on Wed, 16 May 2018
Question: Hi Doctor,

My girl friend had her last periods on 10th November. She used to get brown colour spotting during start of her peiods. On 10th November, we had dry sex with clothes. There is no penetration or ejacuation. There is no direct contact also. So she got her periods for this month today. Generally her cycle is 30 days. But, it started with pink colour spotting. Then the bleeding is red and sometimes pink.

Will there be any chance of pregnancy? What does pink colour during periods indicate? She gor accident last month and so physical excercise is less. Is that the reason for pink colour.

Please help

Brief Answer:
Chance of pregnancy almost nil. Some more information needed for further guidance

Detailed Answer:
Hi there,
I have understood your concern and I will suggest you the best possible treatment options.

First of all, do not panic.

As you might be aware that in a woman with the regular cycle, day 10 to 20 of the cycle is the most fertile period of the cycle. If you happen to have unprotected sexual activity in this period then there is a chance of getting pregnant.

From the query, your day of sexual activity was not during the fertile period of the cycle. So you need not worry about the pregnancy.

Secondly, as there was only dry sex with clothes on, and also there was no penetrative sex or ejaculation, chances of pregnancy are almost nil.

I'd also suggest both of you get proper sexual counseling done about safe and protected sexual activity.

Please let me know if she has this pinkish kind of discharge for the first time or has she experienced it before?

Also, I would like to know if she has done gynecology check up if any, in the past?
Level of physical activity should not have an impact on the menstrual cycle.
After her accidental episode, has she been on any prolonged medicines?

I hope this answer helps you.
Please feel free to communicate with me again.

Thanks.

Hi Doctor,

Thanks for the reply. Please find answers for your questions below.

This is the first time she has observed pink blood during her peiods.
Her periods used to start with brown colour spotting before. We contacted gynacologist for this and they told its due to Old blood.

As her two fingers got fractured in the accident she met with, she has been given medicines from last 15 days.

Can u please let us know what does pink blood indicate during period? Will there be any problem? Please help

Brief Answer:
Gynecology check up. Broad-spectrum antibiotics

Detailed Answer:
Hi there, thanks for appreciating the answer and reverting back to me.

As you might be aware that old blood looks brown or dark red and fresh bleeding looks bright red.
Pink discharge can be due to fresh blood getting mixed with vaginal or cervical secretions.

I will suggest that she should get her gynecological examination done which includes per speculum and per vaginal examination. This will help to rule out cervical erosion and or polyp as a cause for pink discharge. I usually suggest a week long course of broad spectrum antibiotic like Doxycycline for such a condition.

I hope this answer helps you.
Thanks.
