Is It Possible To Reduce Symptoms Of Irritability Completely With Keppra?

default
Posted on Tue, 28 Jul 2015
Question: Hi,

I am on Lexapro 5 mg, Klonopin 2 mg, Keppra 1000 mg and Solian (amisulpride) 100 mg. I am now at the 5th week with Keppra and i feel an important improvement, close to 85%/90 %. I have to remember that Keppra is helping me to fight irritability and some "ocd like" symptoms created partly by Solian (amisulpride) and its dopaminergic effect at this low dosage. Keppra according to my psychiatrist is also fighting the effects of the biosimilar Exitelev (by Sandoz) i used to take. I would like to know if it's realistic to expect the end of these irritability symptoms at the beginning of the next week thanks to Keppra. It's not a matter of anxiety, but i need to feel at 100 % because i'll have to travel. I would like to know if Keppra has some kind of cumulative effect in time.

Thanks beforehand

Brief Answer:
Keppra is a good drug

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for choosing health care magic for posting your query.
I have gone through your question in detail and I can understand what you are going through.
Keppra is a good drug and its good that its helping you a lot in reducing your symptoms of irritability. The effects of keppra, if effective, are more swift during the initial 4 weeks and then the effects will persist and the improvement will be there but the process will become a bit slower. It may take 2-3 weeks to reduce your further symptoms of irritability but I would suggest you to stick to this medicine as with time this will show good improvement.
Other options which you can consider are low doses of risperidon or valproate. These are also effective in reducing the symptoms stated by you but as of now try to be on keppra.
Hope I am able to answer your concerns.
If you have any further query, I would be glad to help you.

Hi,
I would like to know if Keppra has cumulative effects once it begins to work.
I ve been told before here that Keppra takes more or least 4 weeks to work, or maybe six, but no more. Is this information right?
Thanks beforehand XXXXXXX

Brief Answer:
Yes it has

Detailed Answer:
Hello
Yes, it has a cumulative effect.
Its true that Keppra should start showing its effects within 4-6 weeks and if there is no response then the medication should be switched. However its just regarding the beginning of effect and ones the effect begin it can have cumulative effect over more than 6 weeks as well.
