Is It Normal For Newborns To Have Constipation For 3 To 4 Days?

default
Posted on Mon, 8 Apr 2024
Question: Baby is 1 week old today. It did do motion for 3 to 4 days from the day it was born but we observed baby is not doing motion from past 3 days though it passes the Urine in Regular intervals.
My questions:
Is the above behavior normal?
Ideally, what is the average interval taken by a healthy baby to do motion regularly?
When is the best time to remove the umbilical stump?

Brief Answer:
There is nothing to be worried about

Detailed Answer:
Hi
Greetings of the day

Dear Mr XXXXXXX

Every baby is unique and have their own pattern of stool frequency. Nothing can be labelled as normal pattern.
If there is no distension of abdomen and baby is accepting feeds well then there seems to be absolutely no cause for concern( i assume baby is on exclusive breast feeding).

Umbilical stump removal is not recommended, it will fall off spontaneously on its own.

Do get back to me anytime for any further assistance.

Take care
